현우: 저도 안 하는데, 이제 보통 싱크나 물론 한국어로는 싱크대라고 하는데, 싱크대, 가스레인지, 이런 것들을 사러 가면 주방 가구라고도 하지만 “키친 ~~“라고 쓰여 있어요. 그런 백화점 같은 데 가면 키친이라는 말을 많이 볼 수 있는데, 키친, 주방, 부엌 다 쓰이는 말이에요.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: I don&amp;#039;t either, but these days usually we say sink or something, in Korean, “shinkeudae,” but when you go to buy a sink, or a stove, or these kinds of things, we say “jubang”-wares, too, but “&amp;#039;ki-chin&amp;#039; blah blah” is used. When you go to somewhere like a department store, you can see the word “ki-chin” a lot, so “ki-chin,” “jubang,” “bu-eok” are all words that are used.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 맞아요. 현우 씨는 부엌에 자주 들어가요? &lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: That&amp;#039;s right. Do you go in the kitchen a lot?&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 그래도 이제 부엌에 가면, 컵도 있고 물도 있고 음식도 있으니까 자주 갈 수 밖에 없겠죠? 경은 씨는요?&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 그게 이상해요. 제가 7년 전에 매일 매일 음식을 한 적이 있었어요. 한 7개월. 그 때 호주에 있을 때였거든요. 혼자 사니까 어쩔 수 없이 음식을 해 먹었어야 됐어요. 그래서 해 먹었는데, 집에 와서 엄마 아빠가 계시니까 절대 안 하게 되는 거예요.&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: It&amp;#039;s strange. Seven years ago I used to make food every single day. For about 7 months. That was when I was in Australia, you see. Since I lived alone, there was no way around it, so I had to cook for myself. So I did, but having come back home, since my mother and father are there, I&amp;#039;ve ended up never cooking.&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 네. 여러 가지 해 봤죠. 아무튼 경은 씨. 요리 이야기를 하고 있는데 우리가 요리를 할 때 쓰이는 기구들이 몇 가지 있잖아요. 도구들. 그것들에 대해서 한번 이야기를 하고 오늘 레슨을 끝내면 어떨까 하는데요. 일단 현정 씨가 물을 틀었어요. 아까 처음에 물. 물을 틀 때 쓰이는 부분, 뭐라고 하죠?&lt;br /&gt;

Tools. I was thinking how about if we finish today&amp;#039;s lesson having talked once about those kinds of things. First, Hyeonjeong turned on the water. Just before, at first, water. What do we call the part that&amp;#039;s used when we turn on the water, again? &lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 수도꼭지.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: A water faucet.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 다시 한 번.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: Again once more.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 수도꼭지.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: A water faucet.&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 맞아요. 수도꼭지. 수도가 물이 나오는 그 관이죠. 꼭지는 수도 끝에 달려있는 틀면 물이 나오는 물건이죠.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: That&amp;#039;s right. A water faucet. “Sudo” is the pipe that water comes out of, of course. “Ggokji” is the thing that&amp;#039;s attached to the end of the “sudo” that water comes out of if you turn it, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: “Sudoggokji” [water faucet]. So after Hyeonjeong turned on the faucet, she washed the vegetables with water.&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 그리고 그 물을 또 끓이고 싶으면 가스레인지를 활용하죠.&lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: And if you want to boil the water, too, you use the stove, of course.&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: And first you put water in the pan.&lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: That&amp;#039;s right.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 그러고 나서 가스레인지 위에 냄비를 올리는 거예요.&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: After you do that, you put the pan on the stove.&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 그렇죠. 그렇게 할 수도 있겠죠. 물을 넣고, 냄비를 가스레인지 위에 올리고 가스레인지 불을 켜고,&lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: Sure. You can do it that way, too, of course. Put in the water, and put the pan on the stove, and light the stove, and&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 불을 켜고,&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: Light the stove, and&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 기다리고. &lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: And wait.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 기다려야 되죠.&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: You have to wait, of course. &lt;br /&gt;

현우: 불을 키고 다른 야채나 고기나 아니면 생선, 아니면 여러 가지 것들을 잘라야겠죠. 썰어야겠죠.&lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: You light the fire, and you&amp;#039;ll have to cut other vegetables or meet or fish, or various things, of course. You have to chop them, of course.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 썰어야죠.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 썰 때 쓰는 것은 (칼) 칼.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: The thing you use when you chop them... (A knife) A knife.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 그리고 도마가 필요해요.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: And you need a cutting board.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 칼하고 도마가 필요한데, 보통 이렇게 주방에서 쓰는 칼은 또 다른 말이 있잖아요. 식칼이라고.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: You need a knife and a cutting board, but usually there&amp;#039;s another word for the knife you use in the kitchen, isn&amp;#039;t there? We say, “shikkal.”&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 아. 식칼. 네.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Ah. “Shikkal.” Yes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 과일을 깎을 때 쓰는 칼은 과일칼.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: The knife you use when you pare fruit is “gwa-il-kal” [a “fruit knife”].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: “과도”라고도 하죠. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: We say “gwado” [“fruit knife”], too, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 과도라고 하기도 하고, 과일칼이라고 하기도 하고, 그 외에 음식을 요리할 때 쓰는 칼은 식칼이라고 해요. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: We say “gwado” and “gwailkal,” and other than that, when we cook food, the knife we use is called “shikkal.”&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 근데 보통 저는 그냥 칼이라고 해요. 왜냐하면 식칼은 느낌이 무섭지 않나요? 저는 좀 그래요. &lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: But usually I just call it “kal” [a knife]. Because, doesn&amp;#039;t “shikkal” feel scary? It does for me.&lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: No way. &lt;br /&gt;

경은: 저희 집에서는 그냥 칼이라고 말해요. &lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: We just say “kal” in my family.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 저희 집에서는 식칼이라고 하는데, 이것도 마찬가지로 사람에 따라서 또 가족에 따라서 다른 것 같아요. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: At our house we say “shikkal,” this, too, similarly, I think it depends on the person and family.&lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: That&amp;#039;s right. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

현우: 그리고 가끔씩 가위를 쓰기도 하고 만약에 찌개나 국을 끓을 경우에는 국자가 필요하겠죠? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: And sometimes we use scissors and if we make stew or soup we&amp;#039;d need a ladle, right?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 네. 국자 필요해요. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Yeah. You need a ladle.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 국자로 이제 저어서 또 국을 떠서 그릇에 담겠죠.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: Now after stirring with the ladle, also after scooping up the soup, you&amp;#039;d serve it in a bowl, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 네. 그릇. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Yeah. A bowl.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 여러 가지 단어들이 있는데 &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: There are a few different words, but&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 그리고 전자레인지. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: And a microwave.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 전자레인지도 쓸 때도 있고 또는 가스오븐이나 전기 오븐을 쓸 때도 있겠죠. 또는 토스트 기계. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: There are times when you use a microwave, and also there&amp;#039;ll be times when you use a gas oven or electric oven, of course. And a toaster.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 토스트 기계, 또 뭐가 있을 까요. 주전자.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: A toaster, what else would there be... A kettle. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 주전자를 이용해서 물을 끓을 때도 있고 또 프라이팬을 이용해서 무언가를 볶을 때도 있겠죠. 요리할 때 쓰이는 단어들은 굉장히 재밌는 것 같아요, 끓이다, 썰다, 볶다, 젓다, 따르다. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: There are times when you boil water using kettle and there&amp;#039;ll be times when you fry something using a skillet, of course. I think the words we use when we cook are extremely interesting. To boil something. To cut something. To fry something. To stir something. To pour something.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 데우다. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: To warm something up.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 그리고 마지막으로 제일 중요한 먹다. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: And lastly, the most important: to eat something.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 네. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Yeah.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 그리고 요리를 다 한 다음에 밥을 다 먹은 다음에 마지막으로 정리를 해야겠죠. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: And after cooking everything and eating everything lastly you&amp;#039;ll have to tidy up, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 깨끗이 치우고 설거지를 해야죠. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: You have to clear everything clean away and do the dishes, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 설거지. 그릇을 다 씻고 원래 있던 상태로 돌려 놓는 것을 “설거지”라고 하는데, 제가 아는 사람 중에 저를 포함해서 설거지가 하기 싫어서 요리를 안 하는 사람들이 꽤 있어요. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: The dishes. Cleaning all the dishes and returning them to where they were originally we call “seolgeoji,” but there are some people I know, myself included, who don&amp;#039;t cook because they hate doing the dishes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
경은: 그래요?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Oh yeah?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
현우: 경은 씨. 모르는 척하지 마세요. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hyunwoo: Kyeong-eun—don&amp;#039;t act like you don&amp;#039;t know.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 저 아니에요. 저는 그냥 단지 &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kyeong-eun: Not me. For me, it&amp;#039;s just only...&lt;br /&gt;

현우: “잘 모르겠다.”는 듯한 그런... &lt;br /&gt;

Hyunwoo: Talking like you don&amp;#039;t know.&lt;br /&gt;

경은: 요리를 못해서 못하는 게 아니라 귀찮아서 사실은…. 그런 거죠. &lt;br /&gt;

Kyeong-eun: It&amp;#039;s not that I don&amp;#039;t cook because I can&amp;#039;t cook, but because it&amp;#039;s a pain, actually. That&amp;#039;s all, of course.&lt;br /&gt;
