현우: 그렇죠. 경쟁을 하듯이 많이 생겨났는데, 사실 다른 나라에도 그렇게 많은지는 모르겠어요. 다른 나라에도 있다는 것은 알고 있는데 한국처럼 많은지는 모르겠어요. 한국은 정말 많아요. <br />

Hyunwoo: Right. They've come out like it's a race, but actually I don't know if there are so many in other countries. I understand that they have them in other countries, but I don't know if they're as numerous as they are here. There are really a lot in Korea.<br />

Hyunwoo: I haven't, but I know a lot of people who use them, but I dunno. On those sites they really have a lot of products, but I've never met someone who buys things there every single day.<br />

현우: 보고 있다가 마음에 드는 게 있으면 사는데, 그런 사이트 중에 미국에서는 “GroupOn” 이라는 게 있죠. “GroupOn” 이라는 사이트가 있는데 한국에는 어떤 사이트가 있어요?<br />

Hyunwoo: If you see something you like while you're there, you buy it. One of those sites in America is called “GroupOn,” of course. There's that site, but in Korea what sites are there?<br />

경은: 저는 “쿠팡” 알고요, “헬로디씨”, ““티켓몬스터”” 이렇게만 알아요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: I just know of “Coupang” and “TicketMonster.” <br />

현우: 제일 먼저 생긴 게?<br />

Hyunwoo: The very first one to come out?<br />

Kyeong-eun: I've heard people say that there are sites just for women, too.<br />

현우: 그런데 그런 사이트들을 저는 잘 안 좋아하는데, 경은 씨는 어때요?<br />

경은: 저는 처음에는 “어, 이거는 대박이다. 너무 좋다.” 그래서 문자까지 다 등록하고, 원래 보통 다른 웹사이트에서는 절대 제 전화번호를 입력하지 않아요. 스팸 전화가 많이 오잖아요, 근데 이번에는 제 진짜 번호를 등록해서 매일매일 그런 문자를 받아보고 싶었던 거죠. 근데 사실 매일매일 문자가 오는 걸 볼 때마다 필요가 없는데 사고 싶어지는 거예요. 정말 필요 없는데 사고 싶어지기도 하고 “굳이 이런 걸 왜 하나?” 이런 생각도 되게 많이 들고 그래서 이제는 싫어해요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: At first I said, “Wow! This is awesome. It's great,” and all registered myself to receive text messages, and originally I don't usually ever enter my phone number on different websites. You get a lot of spam calls, don't you? But in this case, having entered my real phone number, I wanted to try getting those texts every single day, of course. But actually every time I see the things I get in those texts every day, even though I don't need it, I start wanting to buy it. I really don't need it, but I still start wanting to buy it and all the time I think, “Seriously, why am I doing this?” and so these days I hate it.<br />

현우: 보면 가끔씩 평소에 사고 싶었는데 비싸서 안 샀던 것들이 굉장히 싸게 나올 때가 있어요. 그리고 평소에 가고 싶었던 식당인데 싸게 나와서 또 티켓을 구매해서 나중에 갈 때도 있어요. <br />
<br />
Hyunwoo: When you go, sometimes there are times when those things you wanted to buy but didn't because they were expensive are available for incredibly cheap. And there are times too when it's a restaurant you normally want to go to, and since it's up for cheap, you buy a ticket and go later. <br />
<br />
<br />
경은: 그럴 때는 참 좋죠.<br />
<br />
Kyeong-eun: Those times are great. <br />
<br />
<br />
현우: 정말 좋은 것 같아요. 그런데 가끔씩 보면 필요 없는데 그냥 싸니까 살 때도 있는 것 같고. <br />

Hyunwoo: I think it's really great. But sometimes I think you also just buy something you don't need because it's cheap.<br />
<br />
<br />
경은: 제가 생각할 때는 정말 충동구매 하게끔 만드는 것 같아요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: In my opinion, I think they really make you buy on impulse.<br />

현우: 맞아요. 그리고 하루 딱 24시간 동안만 팔잖아요. <br />

Hyunwoo: That's right. And they sell things for one day, for just 24 hours, don't they?<br />
<br />
<br />
경은: 네. <br />
<br />
Kyeong-eun: Yeah.<br />
<br />
<br />
현우: 그래서 사람들이 24시간이 지나면 더 비싸게 사야 된다는 생각에 그리고 혹시 내일 갑자기 사고 싶을지도 모르니까 오늘 사 두는 것 같아요. <br />
<br />
Hyunwoo: So it seems like people think that after those 24 hours have passed, they'll have to buy it at a more expensive price, and since there's a chance they might want to buy it tomorrow, they buy it today.<br />
<br />
<br />
경은: 사실 필요가 없는 물건인데 그렇게 먹고 싶은 것도 아닌데, 꼭 이렇게 오늘 하루만 딱 한정적으로 판매를 하니까. “사 둘까?” 이런 생각 굉장히 많이 하게 되는 것 같아요. <br />
<br />
Kyeong-eun: Actually, while it's not something that you need, and it's not something you really want to eat, since it's a limited-time offer for just the one day, I suppose they really make you think, “Shall I buy it?”<br />
<br />
<br />
현우: 그렇게 물건을 사면 당장은 내일 써야 되는 건 아니고, 3개월 정도 시간이 있잖아요. 3개월 안에 가면 되는 거고, 한 달 안에 사면 되는 거고, 한 달 안에 가면 되는 건데, 그런 건 좋은 것 같고, 컨셉 자체도 재미있어요. <br />

Hyunwoo: If you buy something like that, you don't have to immediately use it tomorrow, you have as much as three months, don't you? It's something that you can use if you go there within three months, something you can use if you buy it within a month, and it's okay to go within a month, so I think that's good, and the concept itself is interesting.<br />

경은: 네. 재미있긴 해요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: Yeah, it's definitely interesting.<br />
<br />

현우: 그런데 문제는 그런 사이트들이 “한국에는 너무 많아서, 너무 많아서 원래 쇼핑이라는 거의 개념이 좀 약해지지 않나.”라는 생각이 들고, 원래 사고 싶은 게 있어서 그 물건의 제대로 된 원래 가격이 있는데, “어디 GroupOn 비슷한 사이트에서 안 나오나?” 하고 기다리게 되는 것 같아요. <br />

Hyunwoo: But the problem with those websites is, you think, “Because in Korea there are too many, because there are too many, does the original concept of shopping become a little weak?” and I think while there's something you originally wanted to buy, it has an original proper price, but you think, “Won't it come out on a site like GroupOn or whatnot?” and you end up waiting.<br />

경은: 좀 제대로 된 물건이 아닌데도 싸니까 그리고 딱 오늘 밖에 안 되니까 충동구매해서 딱 사버리면 나중에 제가 알기로는 후회하는 사람들도 많다고 하더라고요. 그 물건이 제대로 된 물건이 아니어서 환불한 경우도 있다고 얘기 들었어요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: Even though it's not exactly a properly made product, since it's cheap, and since the sale is only for today, having bought it on impulse, when they just go ahead and buy it, I understand that there are a lot of people who regret it later, too. Because it's not properly made, I've heard people say that there are cases when they get a refund.<br />

현우: 환불도 가능해요?<br />

Hyunwoo: Can you even get a refund?<br />

경은: 원래는 가능하지 않은 제품이에요, 그런데 너무 심하게 잘못된 제품이었나 봐요, 그래서 그 제품은 환불해 줬다고 하더라고요. <br />

Kyeong-eun: Originally it's something you can't get a refund for, but it looks like it's something that's too severely defective, so I've heard that they gave them a refund.<br />
