Description

Adjective/Verb + 거든요 : This grammar has several usages.

  1. Used for giving an explanation
  2. Used to introduce information you are going to elaborate more about.
  3. Letting something be known, denying something, used for setting some fact straight, possibly in a slightly rude way. This is sometimes used when someone is being defensive, or in a 'for your information' way.

Notes

  • Not to be confused with 거든 (non final ending).
  • To make it the low form, just remove 요.

Rule 1: 거든요 If there is no 받침 or if the adjective/verb stem has ㄹ as a 받침
Rule 2: 거든요 If there is a 받침 at the end of the adjective/verb stem

나 오늘 밤에 영화보러 갈거거든. 너도 같이 갈래? I'm going to go see a movie tonight. Do you want to come with me? low form
나 지금 너무 슬프거든요. 혼자 내버려 둬요. I'm so sad now. Please leave me alone. polite informal form


Examples when used for letting something be known, sometimes in a 'for your information' manner.
