Each person that will be editing pages will edit all pages that fall under a certain letter in the category: Category:Chinese Roots. Please work at your own pace, if you finish early and would like to be assigned more pages, please ask. Note: You do not need to add additional information, the first phase is just reformatting the pages.

Phase 1

Current format: see the full resolution
New format: see the full resolution

Phase 1 will be adding all hanja characters, applying the new hanja template, formatting and moving information. To see the difference from the current format to the old format, please see the pictures on the right.Note: You do not need to add additional information, the first phase is just reformatting the pages.

Instructions

Update: Instead of editing most of it manually, you can instead use a script made by Ikzelf:

  • Copy and paste either the page's content into there or the hanja characters that need formatting. Remember to preview the page as the script isn't perfect for everything.

Basic details are below, the video tutorial can be watched here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36cbHzjzhsM (watch it in hd).

  • You will be assigned a group of pages. On those pages you will:
    • Insert every hanja character for that page.
    • Insert the hanja template, by using the Button hanja.png button on the toolbar (second to the last one).
    • If there is already data on the page, you will just cut (control + x) and paste (control + v) into the template area.
    • Format any previous data that is in the wrong format (i.e. bad capitalizations, linking to other pages etc). For detailed information on format, see the section "format" below.
    • Count the number of hanja characters there are, and at the top of the page put the total. If you don't want to type "Total characters" over and over, I've made a button on the toolbar that will insert it for you: Button temp.png (last button)
  • Note some pages will already be formatted and you won't need to do any work at all.

Format

On some of the older pages you will be editing, the format needs to be changed on the text.

Old Format style New Format style
<錯覺> - Illusion 착각 <> - illusion

Difference:

  • Old format links to the Korean page, i.e. <錯覺>
  • New format links to the Hanja character's page, NOT linked by the Korean letters: 착각 <>. Note if you see '-' or '-' it means it's NOT a hanja character, so don't link it. For example: 육개장 <->.개 is not a hanja character.
  • New format: No capitalization after the dash, unless necessary.
  • New format: First word of the hanja character's definition is capitalized (after the colon).

Use this script made by Ikzelf instead of manually removing and adding brackets:

Requirements

  • You must install Korean input on your computer so the fonts are all on your system. For instructions on how to install that, check out: this tutorial on youtube.
  • Windows XP or above
  • Learn this simple wiki syntax:
    • To link to a page, you must put the page name in brackets. For example if you want to link the page named Hanja, you simply type [[Hanja]] for it to become Hanja.

Photoshop team

For those who are going to use photoshop, you will simply create hanja characters that are missing and upload them. You will need to have Korean installed on your system, as well as these two files:

  • Basic template PDF: Hanja template.psd
  • You will need to use this font: HYhaeseo.zip
  • Just copy and paste any missing characters you see into the psd file
  • Center the image
  • Save as .png format
  • Upload. You can also try using the multiple file uploader: Special:MultipleUpload
  • Save in the category: Hanja characters by typing [[Category:Hanja characters]]
    • After uploading, hit back on your browser and reupload other files, you shouldn't need to type in the category again, it should still be there.
