최경은 and 김현정 about 여름

TALK TO ME IN KOREAN의 이야기입니다. Hello this is TALK TO ME IN KOREAN’s Iyagi.

Hello Hyeonjeong.

Hello Kyeong-eun.

Yes, hello everybody.

Hello.

Hyeonjeong, what are we going to talk about today?

It’s summer but it’s cold.

Where? Where is it summer but cold?

The office.

The office?

Yes.

As for the office, it’s truly not cold Hyeonjeong.

I’m too cold.

You’re really sensitive to the cold.

Yes.

Ah, I’m also really sensitive to the cold but, you seem to be a lot more sensitive.

I find even a little cold difficult.(ah~) Because of that when it’s very cold (yes) my body doesn’t feel it so when it’s extremely cold it’s okay! (ah) When it’s a little cold I’m really cold.

Oh, that’s novel isn’t it?

Yes… I guess so, eh?

Well, as you know the truth is that Korean’s summers (yes) are incredibly hot and humid.

Hot is ok but, when it’s humid it’s sticky so (ah) it’s difficult.

Yes, that’s right. When it’s humid your body gets sticky and naturally your mood gets bad. (yes) When it’s humid… But honestly in Seoul I only go into buildings where there’s air conditioning, so I don’t feel the humidity.

But the problem is (yes) that I really hate air conditioning.

Because it’s too cold?

Yes.

That’s right. When you go outside it’s hot and (yes) when you enter a building it’s too cold because of the air conditioning.

So you catch colds.

That’s right. You catch colds eh? Because of that I honestly, even in the summer, I always bring long sleeves. (ah) When I ride the subway it’s too cold. (yes) I don’t know what to do. My arms are really like ice.

Yes.

Don’t you think? That’s the extent of the cold eh?

Yes. Subway, banks.

Yes, banks.

And our office!

The office is honestly not cold.

No. Seokjin is too sensitive to the heat so (ah…) he always turns on the fan and turns on the air conditioning.

Ah, that’s true. That fan’s wind goes all the way to your chair?

Yes.

Ah, is that so? For me the office seems a little warmer.

Really?

Yes.

Wow. Well (yes) When you use (buy?) the little fan too (ah…) it really gets cold.

Well then it’s cold again.

There’s nothing you can do Kyeoungun!

Yes. I’m sensitive to even a little cold or a little heat so (yes) I don’t much like summer and I don’t much like winter.

I also like spring and fall the best.

Oh yeah. Fall/winter are the best.

Those are the best days to go out and play.

Oh yeah.

There’s another way to make the summer cold.

Umm… what is it?

Scary stories?

Ah, I really hate those. As for me, because of that, when it becomes summer (yes) people tell lots of scary stories and (yes) and lots of scary movies are shown on television? (that’s right) So honestly I really hate scary stories and movies so I really hate turning on the TV in summer.

Ah, they show up in your dreams, that’s right.

Yes, I’m a little prone to bad nightmares so (yes) umm… I really hate it.

Well those kinds of things aren’t scary for me so my friends sometimes ask me to tell scary stories (yes) often when I talk I don’t know what to say, (yes) so in the end I tell a story about the things around me, you know? (ah..) So when friends hear the story they don’t ask me to tell a scary story again.

Ah, really? Well then next time, not with me but when you are together with Hyunwoo or Seokjin (yes) and do an Iyagi like that, a special scary Iyagi, when you tell the story (umm) Couldn’t that give our listeners a cool summer?

So, my scary story is all we need? ***

Well it it’s a scary story won’t that be good?

If there’s someone like you [listening] what do we do?

Ah… we’ll send a warning message to those people ahead of time. (ah) So it’ll be fine right? Scary Iyagi Special!

Well what do you call that in Korean?

‘Cooling off’ special

Yes.

Well it’s called the ‘cooling off’ special. Also, there’s truly one more way to make summer cold.

What is it?

Eating cold food!

Ah, Patbingsu

Patbingsu, cold noodles, cold bean soup.

Sikhye!

Sikhye is good. There are a lot of things to eat in Korea to cool you down.

Yes.

I don’t really think I get a cool feeling from eating ice cream. (um..) Instead if I eat things like cold noodles or, hmm, patbingsu or those kind of things (yes) it seems okay.

Ah, I want to eat cold noodles too.

Well, shall we eat cold noodles for lunch today?:

Should we?

Yeah, that’s good. Everyone, personally, if you have a special way to cool down the summer let us know. Yes, so thanks for listening everybody!

Goodbye.

Goodbye.
