아/어 + 야 되다

Verb + 아/어/여 + 야 되다 : This pattern is used to indicate obligation. This pattern is slightly weaker than V + 아/어 + 야 하다.

For Conjugation rules, see the basic conjugation for 아/어/여. Some basic examples:

  • 가다 → 가야 돼요
  • 오다 → 와야 돼요
  • 먹다 → 먹어야 돼요
  • 가르치다 → 가르쳐야 돼요
  • 놀다 → 놀아야 돼요 (irregular ㄹ verb)
  • 듣다 → 들어야 돼요 (irregular ㄷ verb)

Sentence Examples

Korean English Notes
점심을 먹어야 돼요. I have to eat lunch. Polite informal ending
오늘 공부해 야돼요. I have to study today. Polite informal ending
우리 이겨야 돼. We have to win. Low form (반말)
