V + (아/어) 있다: This pattern expresses the existence of a state or a fact. Must be distinguished from V + 고 있다 which is used to express a continuing action or a process.

- Verb stem + (아/어)있다
 
Conjugation Examples
- 앉다 (to sit) --> 앉아 있다
 - 서다 ( to stand) --> 서 있다
 
Sentence Examples
- 언니는 지금 앉아 있다. (My sister is sitting.)
 - 물고기가 아직 살아 있다. (The fish is still alive.)
 -  책이 책상에 놓여있다.(A book is on the talbe.) 
- [놓이다] 놓이+어 있다 = 놓여있다
 
 - 핸드폰이 꺼져있다
 
Usage Exceptions
- 동생은 지금 누워 있다. (My sister is lying down.) - 눕다 + 어 있다 = 누워있다.
