Verb + 는 길 : This is used to say what you were doing while you were on the way to someplace or en route to someplace.


  • 길 is usually attached with the verb 이다 to make a complete sentence (V + 는 길이다).
  • 길 is usually attached with 에 if used in the middle of a sentence (V + 는 길에).
  • The verb in this pattern must be related to coming or going, i.e. 가다, 오다, 내리다, 돌아오다, 돌아가다, 나가다 etc.

Sentence Examples

A: "지금 뭐 해?"
B:"집에 가는 길이야."
A: "What are you doing now?"
B: "I'm on the way home."
나가는 길에 쓰레기 좀 버려줘. Throw away the trash on your way out (for me).
집에 오는 길에 아이스크림 사 와. On your way home buy some ice cream (and bring it here).
오는 길에 철수를 만났어요. I met Cheol-su while coming (here).
가는 길에 전화 할게. I'll call you on the way.
호주에 가는 길에 일본에도 들를 예정이에요.
호주 갔다가 돌아오는 길에 선물 사올게요.
철수가 우리 집에 놀러왔다가 돌아가는 길에 사고가 났어요.
A: "뭐해?"
B: "친구만나러 나가는 길이야."
A: "What are you doing?"
B: "I'm on my way out to meet a friend."
A: "안녕하세요? 어디 가요?"
B: "네. 학교 가는 길이에요."
A: "Hello? Where are you going?"
B: "Hi I'm on my way to school."
