Adjective/Verb + (으)ㄹ 리가 없다: This pattern is equivalent to the phrase 'There is no reason why...' or 'There is no reason (to) ~.' It is used to express disbelief, skepticism or doubt.
This pattern (negative form) must be used as a declarative statement and cannot be used as an interrogative statement. To use as an interrogative statement one must use the positive form (으)ㄹ 리가 있다.
- Adjective/Verb + (을) 리가 없다 [받침]
- Adjective/Verb + ㄹ 리가 없다 [no 받침]
- 하다 → 할 리가 없다
- 가다 → 갈 리가 없다
- 늦다 → 늦을 리가 없다
- 먹다 → 먹을 리가 없다
- This grammar should be pronounced like it's one word (i.e. 갈리가), therefore the ㄹ in 리가 is pronounced like an /l/ sound rather than an /r/ sound.
