Description

Noun + (으)로 : 로 is used to denote a means to do/achieve something.

Notes

  • This can usually be literally translated into "by + noun" or "with + noun".
  • Note that noun + (를) 타고 is more often used for transportation. e.g. 자전거로 숲에 들어가다 vs. 자전거를 타고 숲에 들어가다 (Go into forest by bicycle)

Rule 1: Noun + 로 If there is no 받침 or if the adjective/verb stem has ㄹ as a 받침
Rule 2: Noun + 으로 If there is a 받침 at the end of the adjective/verb stem

노트 필기는 펜으로 해주세요. Please take notes with a pen.
컴퓨터는 물로 씻으면 안 된다. A computer should not be washed with water.
나는 지우개로 틀린 답을 지웠다. I erased the wrong answer with an eraser.
연필로 썼으니까 그냥 지워. I wrote it with a pencil, so just erase it.
